Lynn Edmundson is the co-founder and Executive Director of Historic Houston, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Houston’s architectural resources through scholarly research, documentation, education and advocacy for sustainable design and conservation. Edmundson holds a Masters of Architecture degree from the University of Houston and has been involved in historic preservation for over 15 years. Under her leadership, Historic Houston has spearheaded the relocation of 24 historically significant buildings to circumvent demolition and initiated a Relocation Program that recycles historic housing stock to provide low to moderate-income housing throughout Houston. Additionally, under her direction Historic Houston initiated a Salvage Program for reclaiming both the structural and non-structural historic building materials from houses slated for demolition. In 2003 Historic Houston’s Salvage Program was expanded to include the operation of an architectural salvage warehouse to make their reclaimed building materials available to the public. She has worked with the numerous city, county and state governments and agencies, including the City of Houston Planning and Development Department, to provide programs that encourage historic preservation and promote sustainable design and the conservation of Houston’s architectural resources. She has also established educational workshops through the University of St. Thomas, and Rice School of Continuing Studies. In 2005 Historic Houston’s Relocation and Salvage Programs were selected by Metropolitan Home as one of their Design 100-Best of the Best People, Places and Extraordinary Things and in 2006 Historic Houston’s Relocation and Salvage Programs were recipients of the 2006 Environmental Leadership Award by the Recycling Alliance of Texas.
