J R Gonzales

J.R. Gonzales is a news copy editor/blogger at the Houston Chronicle. A third-generation Houstonian, Gonzales grew up in the Aldine area and graduated from the University of Houston with a journalism degree in 2001.

After graduating, Gonzales worked as a courts reporter at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. In 2003, he worked as a police reporter and later as a copy editor at The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C.

During his career, Gonzales has won two Associated Press Managing Editors awards for his reporting. In 2007, he received a first place award for news headline writing from the South Carolina Press Association.

Since 2006, Gonzales has overseen Bayou City History, a blog about Houston history.
