Though a San Antonio native, Jill says some of her most memorable early
experiences occurred in Houston, including attending The Beatles concert at the Sam
Houston Coliseum in 1965 and her first date at the historic Catacombs
nightclub.
With a degree in Interior Design from the University of Texas at Austin
she started her career at the
architectural firm of Page Southerland Page.. Jill became enamored with historic structures and their
interiors.
She and husband, Jerry Brooks, moved to Houston where Jill
worked for architectural firms: Morganelli Heumann, Gensler and Kirksey. Her last professional project was the renovation of the Houston Museum of
Natural Science’s IMAX Theater. Sweet!
Her efforts in volunteerism are many, including service on
Mayor Bill White’s Houston History Task Force 2005-2006;
Archaeological and Historical Commission Education Committee, 2009 and lenghty work for the
Daughters of the American Revolution in such posts as
Public Relations Committee Chair for the Alexander Love Chapter; Historic Preservation Committee Chair for the State of Texas DAR and National Vice Chair of the Historic Preservation Committee. She is also a member of the Daughter of the Republic of Texas.
After 31 years of marriage, Jill has 2 sons, one granddaughter and a menagerie of pets.
